Time Zone The time in Fuerteventura is the same as GMT. Summer time is GMT + 1 which is from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.
Weather Fuerteventura is mild and very pleasant all year round with little rainfall. Temperatures reach around 29ºC in summer months and 22ºC in winter months.
Language The language spoken in Fuerteventura is Spanish, although English is widely understood.
Flight Time The approximate flight time from London to Fuerteventura is 4 hours.
Airports Fuerteventura airport is situated close to the capital Puerto del Rosario. The airport is very modern and impressive in design; it has many facilities, such as Bureau de Change, restaurants, bars, a duty free shop, a tourist help desk, car rental and a taxi service.
Currency The official currency is the Euro (EUR). One Euro is divided into 100 cents. Banks are open 6 days a week (closed Sunday) from 08:30 to 14:00 (09:00 to 13:00 Saturday). Outside these hours the Cambio de Change or your hotel reception can change money, there is sometimes a charge for this. Remember to have your passport with you if you are changing traveller's cheque or Euro cheques. Banks give the best rates. All major credit cards and travellers cheques are widely accepted at most hotels, restaurants, and shops. ATMs are widespread and are generally the cheapest and most convenient method of obtaining money.
Telephone Services Pay phones accept either coins or phone cards. Phone cards are sold at post offices, tobacco shops, and newsagents.

Communications Email and internet access is available at internet cafes in most towns and resorts. Most mobile networks have roaming agreements which enable you to use your mobile phone abroad. Please check with your mobile phone provider before arrival.
Passport Information A passport is required to enter the country and must be valid for 3 months after date of departure; however it is recommended that your passport is valid for at least 6 months.
Visa
Information
No visa is required for a maximum stay of 90 days for those holding a passport endorsed British Citizen, European Community, British Dependent Territories Citizen or British Subject. Other passport holders require a visa and a passport valid at least three months beyond visa expiry date.
Health & Safety/Vaccinations There are no vaccination requirements, however please consult your doctor/nurse before travelling. Health facilities are generally of a good standard.
EHIC (old E111) A European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) entitles you to reduced-cost, sometimes free, medical treatment that becomes necessary while you're there. This is a free card that you should submit about 6 weeks before you plan to leave to allow the card to reach you on time. Travel insurance is also required on top of this to cover all situations and emergencies.

Fuerteventura's main tourist office is located at the airport so you can pick up all the information you need to plan your holiday.
Duty Free You must ensure that everything you buy in Fuerteventura is within the Duty Free allowance:

Electricity Electrical current is 220 or 225 volts, 50Hz. European-style two-pin plugs are standard.
Tipping Hotel and restaurant bills usually include service charges, but additional tips are welcomed for services rendered. In restaurants tips of about 15% are expected. Value-added-tax is usually included in restaurant bills, designated 'I.V.A', and may be mistaken for a service charge. Drivers of metered taxis expect tips of 10-15%. It is customary to tip small amounts, usually 5-10% for most services, including guides.
Food & Drink It is not recommended that you drink tap water in Fuerteventura, but there are plenty of places to purchase bottled water. Like in all countries different products may be used when preparing foods, to be on the safe side ensure vegetables are cooked and fruit is peeled. Only eat well-cooked meat and fish, preferably served hot.
Postal Services There are efficient internal and international postal services to all countries. Airmail within Europe usually takes around five days. Poste Restante facilities are available at main post offices.
Driving in Fuerteventura Taxis can be taken but hiring a car is the best option for those who really want to explore the island. Drivers must be over 21 and hold a full driving license. Drink driving is illegal and seatbelts must be worn. The national speed limit is 90kmh, though the taxi drivers don't seem aware of this. You must drive on the right side of the road. Remember to give way to traffic to your left when using a roundabout.

Do not pull into the centre of the road when trying to turn left if there is a solid white line in the road. There are special lanes for this maneuver called "cambio de sentido". Remember - there are toll roads, so keep some change handy with you when out driving.
