| Footballer James McCarthy has spoken about how much he enjoyed a recent holiday in Tenerife. The Hamilton Academical midfielder told the Sunday Mail that he had an excellent vacation on the Canary Island with his friends, although he claimed to feel "sorry" for team-mate James McArthur who was unable to travel with them. "James only started to look for his passport a few hours before we were due to check-in," he remarked. "We felt sorry for him but it didn''t stop us from having a top time." The 18-year-old Republic of Ireland under-21 star did not reveal which parts of Tenerife he visited, but according to Gareth Scurlock of the Times, the destination caters for a wide range of tastes. While it may be famous for its cheap package holidays and party culture, the writer noted that it also boasts Michelin-star restaurants, fine architecture, excellent views and whale and dolphin spotting. ![]() |
