| Those searching for information about Tenerife may be interested to learn that the island''s Loro Parque Foundation has released a rescue turtle back into the wild. The turtle, which is originally from Gran Canaria, was nursed back to health in Puerto de la Cruz after being rescued earlier in the year, Tenerife News reports. "[Following] careful assessment of her health and weight, the Loro Parque Foundation was able to release the caretta caretta turtle on the Playa Jardin beach," the publication noted. A crowd of spectators reportedly gathered to watch the small creature make its way into the sea. Loggerhead turtles are officially listed as vulnerable by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, with studies showing that their numbers have declined in recent years. The animals, which feed on crabs, mussels and clams, can weigh up to 180 kilograms and grow to be more than one metre in length. ![]() |
